These middle or high school painting lessons can be done in the classroom or via distance learning if the students have the necessary materials. All of my resources are formatted so that they can upload easily to Google Classroom and shared digitally with your students. Students can watch video demonstrations and access the handouts, reference photos, and rubrics anytime from any device. All presentations are in Google Slides and PowerPoint versions.
These paintings unfold sequentially. Each project builds on the skills learned in the previous lesson. Students learn how to create tints and shades with the color theory handouts. Next, they apply what they learned about creating value and chromatic grays and black in the mystery button and ice cream sundae painting. The copper mug painting reinforces the skills and introduces a new color palette and toned canvas. The subject matter and scale of these paintings is simple enough for an introduction to art class but will still challenge intermediate painters.
