High School Art Drawing Refraction in Colored Pencil Using the Grid Method

This is a great challenging lesson for advanced art students to refine observational drawing skills. Included are:

  • 25 pre gridded images
  • viewfinders
  • handout with instructions on how to grid the drawing paper with measurements and diagram. (when students miss the demonstration or forget the measurements direct them to the handout)
  • an instructional video that unfolds in minutes so students can see the entire drawing process from start to finish quickly. It explains how to use the grid and viewfinders and how to layer colored pencil to create depth and dimension. It addresses common challenges students will have and motivates them to get drawing. This is also great to show students who are absent the day you introduce the lesson.
  • teacher instructions with some helpful hints and suggestions to make sure students don’t make common mistakes.

Students always amaze themselves with this art project and are shocked how well they can draw when they use the grid method. This is a lesson on its own, but I also like to have these images readily available to give to more advanced students when they finish early or as a modification to a value project for the more motivated, focused, student who likes to push themselves.

This lesson is also included in the following bundles. Bundles are a great way to get a lot of resources at a discounted price.
